Following a successful first six months in business, we’re focusing our attention over 2020 on expanding our service offering while maintaining our key covenant of providing expert, pragmatic advice.

In this respect we’re delighted to announce that Kerry Berchem has joined Cerberus as a Senior Consultant specialising in all things data protection and covering all businesses (both regulated and unregulated) requiring support in respect of the handling and management of personal data.

Kerry spent two and a half years working as an in-house lawyer at the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and during that time was tasked with becoming its resident expert on data protection. Kerry’s responsibilities included attending external meetings on the development of the draft Data Protection Law and advising the Commission of the implications of the impending changes, and developing internal policies and procedures to deal with a variety of data protection issues, including the cross-jurisdictional exchange of data between regulators and supervisory bodies.

Since leaving the Commission Kerry has worked as Head of Legal for an international online gaming company authorised by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, a role that included developing and handling data protection matters, including determining the implications for marketing, data mapping and the setting up of processes for the management of high volume data subject access requests.

Kerry also works closely with the Bailiwick of Guernsey Data Protection Association, an organisation aimed at promoting knowledge and understanding of data protection in Guernsey and has provided advice and assistance to small local trading businesses on the implications of the Data Protection Law to their operations.

Details about our data protection services can be found on our Services page. If you’d like to discuss how Kerry could help your business then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
